Well Team,
We've decided to change things at HRSC and will no longer be hosting an awards ceremony. Our Breakfast Networking Event will now become our signature event and will occur annually every spring. For the second half of the year, it was decided at the last meeting to partner with the DARE campaign and reach out to the community through the schools.
The proposed partnership is simple and will be led by Officer Pam C. It entails tagging ourselves with the essay writing portion of the Dare program. All students in the program are required to write an essay towards the end of the campaign. Each of these essays is read by the DARE officer so we’ll ask the officer to pick the best 3 essays from each participating school in Halton to forward to us. From these 3 essays, we will select a winner to receive a prize pack. At the DARE graduation ceremony, a representative of the HRSC will attend, say a few words about Community Safety and the HRSC and present the prize pack. This normally takes place in November so we have sufficient time to get things together.
As a preface to this, I have signed the Council up to be a part of the Halton Regional Police Service’s 4th Annual Traffic Safety and Education Event at the Town of Oakville Municipal Building, located at 1225 Trafalgar Road in Oakville. This takes place on Saturday September 13th, 2008. We will have a booth and I am in the process of compiling a safety booklet as a handout. We’ll also hand out the leftover notepads and business card holders (and pens if they work) we have in stock. Please forward any suggestions for the booklet to me as soon as possible. I’d also like some volunteers for the day. Set up is from 8:30am to 10:30 am , and the event runs from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
This is pretty much our task list for the year. So let’s all get involved. Send me a note or post on the web forum, what area you’d like to contribute in and we’ll move from there. I hope you all had a great Canada Day and that the summer is good to you all. I’m looking forward to hearing from each of you soon.
